Amal was a childhood friend of Aladdin's who disappeared when he was still just a boy. Later, he returned as a monster under the command of Mirage. Every seven years during the full moon, she had stolen many children. Lured by tales of power and immortality, dozens of children joined her willingly. She cultivated the "seed of evil" in each, turning them into El Katib, the Shadow Walkers, her own creatures of night. She did not tell them the high price. This, combined with the prospect of doing in his old friend, convinced Amal that what he was doing was wrong. When Mirage abandoned them, he did not suffer the same fate when the full moon set as the others who did not turn back from evil. Now he wanders the world, helping others, and regaining his lost humanity piece by piece.
